Middle School Math and Religion

Religion - During the middle school years, our religious curriculum focuses on Jesus, the Old Testament, and our Church.  Recognizing the integrity of each person, living the Golden Rule, and practicing responsibility and social justice are our goals.

Math- Our curriculum follows the guidelines of the Diocese of Metuchen and the New Jersey Core Content Curriculum for math. Math skills and word problem applications are reinforced and enriched during the middle school years.  Students gain new insight into previously learned skills by incorporating these skills into their work with integers.  Work with geometry, pre-algebra/algebra completes their math experience at Holy Family Academy.

My Expectations:

     1.  Be prepared for class everyday with textbook, workbook, notebook, pencils, pen (preferably red), previous night's homework and a positive attitude.
     2.  Pay attention in class and try your best

Homework:  Unless otherwise specified, homework is due the first school day after it is assigned.  If homework is not presented, in class, it will be considered late.

Absences:  If absent, students need to see me regarding missed class work, homework, tests or quizzes.  They will have three days after an absence to make up missed work.

Grades:  (Math) The breakdown for grading is as follows:

                   Tests - 35%            Homework - 20%

                   Quizzes - 30%        Classwork - 15%

Extra Credit: Upon receipt of a graded test or quiz, a student my choose to do test corrections.  By doing test corrections, a student may earn up to 1/2 of the points lost to incorrect answers.  Test corrections must include fully worked out correct answers using math symbols along with written word explanations of the previous error made and a written word explanation of the correct method for solving the problem.  Corrections must be written out neatly on a separate sheet of paper and attached to the original quiz or test. Students will have three days to complete test/quiz corrections.

I may be reached by e-mail or leave a message through the main office 732-356-1151. If ever a question arises, please contact me. Our goals are the same: success for your child.
