Our day is centered around our religious beliefs. Daily prayer, weekly mass, studying the sacraments and living the Beatitudes are an important part of our fifth grade day.
Student Expectations: 1. Know all facts in math 2. Be able to explain how to get the answers 3. Read and comprehend information 4. Responsible for copying down and doing homework, keeping their things organized and cleaning up after themselves
Curriculum:
Religion - study the sacraments and further our beliefs
Language Arts
Reading - comprehension, specific reading skills, fluency, vocabulary and independent reading
Writing - fluency, correct use of English, creativity
English - sentences written correctly, correct use of grammar
Spelling - correct use of rules in all writing
Math - mastery of all functions of math with whole numbers, fractions, mixed numbers and decimals be able to understand and explain all processes
Social Studies- American regions and history, causes and effects and economics of regions
Science - Earth Science, Physical Science, and Human Body units Use of reasoning, Scientific Process and deductive reasoning
In addition, there are novels to read, projects to make and class trips to take. The high point of our year is our "People Project" in January, and our Gr. 5 Open House in February. The DARE PROGRAM, in the spring, is always a fun learning time for the students. Sharing time with our "little buddies" in kindergarten brings smiles to all our faces anytime we get together.
